In our newest Story from the Field, writer Helen Ubiñas takes us along Philadelphia’s vibrant commercial strips, inside immigrant-led businesses, to civics classes and into City Hall to talk with people who’ve helped enliven neighborhoods and reverse a decades-long population decline. “Our survival depends on our diversity of people and economics,” says Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter. “Part of our survival is going to be about our continued ability to diversify and transform, and that means embracing change.”
